Understanding the true nature of the watches that you have and the most appropriate route for replacement is of the utmost importance; for example, the value of vintage watches has increased dramatically over the past 10 years and in some cases, has surpassed the modern retail equivalent.
It would be inappropriate to insure a rare vintage watch for the price of the model currently available to buy in-store.
The correct valuing of a watch or watch collection is vital if you are not to be left out of pocket in the event of a loss. It is important that your valuer is a specialist in the field of watches, rather than just an accredited valuer.
With experience of both retail prices and the pre-owned watch market gained over the last 25 years, and having valued thousands of watches both for auction and insurance replacement, I am well equipped to advise clients with an accurate assessment.
This includes identifying and authenticating watches that have had third-party components, such as diamonds, added or are outright fakes, both of which will significantly affect the value.
Valuations can also be provided for Probate, Family Division, Disposal and in cases of Insolvency.
“Organising the valuation of a collection can be daunting, but Adrian makes the process easy.
He is knowledgeable, efficient, user friendly and a pleasure to work with.
He even makes house calls!”
I have had a lifelong fascination with watches, seeing them as artefacts of social history intrigued by context as much as mechanisms and enjoying the heroic failures along with the enduring successes. When not sourcing or valuing watches, I write on the subject for a variety of print and online publications.
