FAQs

Can you value my watch?

Yes, we can value your watch for a variety of purposes, such as insurance, probate, or asset division. If you are unfortunate enough to have your watch lost or stolen, a post-loss assessment can be carried out.

How much does a watch valuation cost?

We base watch valuation fees on the time it takes to complete the assessment and prepare your documents, not as a percentage of the watch’s value. The fees can vary based on the rarity or complexity of the watch and we will agree everything before any work starts, so there are no hidden surprises.

Can you value my watch from photographs?

No, unfortunately not; a JVA Registered Valuer is bound by a code of conduct which requires that all watches are examined in person. This is to avoid identification errors and prevent fraud.

Can you tell me if my watch is fake?

Yes, we can. As a valuation can only be done on an authentic watch, the valuation process is also an authentication. If you do not need a valuation, we can prepare an authentication-only report for you instead.

Can you help me buy or sell a watch?

Yes, we can. The Watch Scholar is not a dealer, so we be unable to buy your watch, or sell you a watch directly. What we do have is a wide range of helpful contacts within the pre-owned watch dealing and watch auction world. This allows us to act independently and advise you on the most appropriate route for your watch.

What areas do you cover?

The Watch Scholar is based in Worcestershire and this central location allows us to successfully service our established clients across the UK, with the majority of clients located in London, Surrey, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, the Cotswolds and the West Midlands.

How can I learn more about watches?

At The Watch Scholar, we run courses not only for those who work in the watch industry but also for anyone looking to learn more about watches and increase their appreciation. Head over to our courses tab to find out more, or drop us a message to be updated whenever new courses are announced.
